One of the greatest lies we tell ourselves is that purpose is required for action.
We want to feel our work has intrinsic meaning before we even begin. This tricks us into pausing our life as we wait for lightning to strike.
Purpose is born from hard work, not the other way around. It may seem that passion is required for finding meaning but it is not.
It is pain’s job to find us meaning.
People find purpose in overcoming challenges. It is the hard things, like running a marathon, climbing Everest, raising children, or caring well for our friends, that we become most passionate about. When you ask someone what they are passionate about, it will always be the areas where they have worked the hardest and suffered the most.
If you wait for passion to happen to you it never will.
This year I want to stop looking for passion and instead begin pursuing action. I want to learn about myself through challenging circumstances. I want to build self respect through overcoming.
Imagine the domino effect.
